Climate Reporting Workshop to Begin Tomorrow in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar : A day-long training workshop focused on strengthening climate change and conservation reporting will begin tomorrow, Saturday, January 11, at the Nishorgo Community Center in Himchari National Park, Cox’s Bazar. Over 40 journalists from Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari are participating in the event.

The workshop, titled “Strengthening Climate Change and Conservation Reporting and Negotiation Insights,” is a joint initiative of the UK Government’s Climate Ambition Support Alliance (CASA) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). NACOM is leading the implementation in Bangladesh, in association with The Climate Watch, a dedicated news portal specializing in climate change reporting. The event falls under the broader project, “Strengthening the Negotiators: Empowering Bangladeshi Stakeholders in the UNFCCC Negotiations.”

The training aims to equip journalists with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively communicate Bangladesh’s national climate priorities on the global stage. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the UNFCCC framework, international climate negotiation processes, and key thematic areas including adaptation, mitigation, just transition, climate financing, loss and damage, and gender mainstreaming.

Organizers hope that by providing journalists with these insights, they will be better positioned to report on Bangladesh’s climate challenges and successes, advocate for stronger international support, and contribute to a unified narrative that amplifies the nation’s voice in global climate discussions. The workshop is specifically designed to empower journalists to play a crucial role in promoting Bangladesh’s national climate goals by providing them with the tools and knowledge needed for effective reporting on climate change and global negotiations.

The inaugural ceremony was chaired by SM Munjurul Hannan Khan, Executive Director of Nature Conservation Management. Dr. ASM Marjan Nur, Climate and Environment Adviser of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office at the British High Commission, Dhaka, attended as the chief guest.
